If you visit during the spring and autumn equinoxes, you could witness the presence of Kukulcan, the Serpent God, whose shadow slithers down the staircase of the temple named after him. Continue your trek through the Chichen Itza complex and listen to your guide talk about the Mayans' mathematical and astronomical genius, which is exemplified by the Observatory. Mayan astronomers used this structure to watch the heavens above and predict celestial events with total precision. Nearby, visit the Nunnery and the Monastery, two more intricately decorated temples that housed the kingdom's revered clergy. And you can't leave the Chichen Itza archaeological site without a stop at the Ball Court, one of the most impressive of its kind.
